Which types of Working Holiday Visa Australia are there?

There are 2 types of Working holiday visas for Australia - the 417 visa and the other is the 462 visa.

Not all countries have a working holiday visa agreement with Australia. The country mentioned in your passport determines which Visa you can apply for. The 417 and 462 have slightly different requirements and in general the 462 Visa takes longer to get approved.

How long can I stay with a Working Holiday Visa?

The Working Holiday Visa allows you to stay in Australia for 12 months from the day you enter the country. Hold you horses.. you can apply for a 2nd or even a 3rd year Working holiday visa extension with the 88-day rule.

When does the Working Holiday Visa start?

The visa only starts when you enter Australia... so apply now, arrive later :)

Once you have arrived and started your visa, you are welcome to come and go from Australia for the entirety of the year.

Does the working holiday visa start from the day I apply?

Nope, once your Working Holiday Visa is approved, you have ONE YEAR to enter the country, and subsequently activate the visa.

What are the costs of an Australian Working Holiday Visa?

$510 AUD is the cost of the Working Holiday Visa. This is the same for both 417 & 462 visas.

You will be required to Pay online directly in the immigration portal. Your payment will be done to the Australia department of Home Affairs after you’ve completed your application.

How to apply for Working Holiday Visa?

When applying for both 417 & 462 Working Holiday visas, first you will be asked to go online and create an ImmiAccount.

You will also be required to provide the following documentation to support your application:

‍

• You will need to provide a bank statement showing you have adequate funds to support yourself, usually the equivalent of $5,000 AUD in your own currency

• For both 417 and 462 Working Holiday visas, you will be asked to provide the pages of your current passport showing your photo, personal details, passport issue and expiry dates.

Depending on your country you will be asked additional requirements for a Working Holiday Visa 462 application.

Am I eligible for a Working Holiday visa?

You are eligible based on your country of citizenship and your age. Basically, all countries which have a 462 Visa agreement have an age limit of 18 - 30. Countries with a 417 Visa agreement can have an age limit of 18 - 30 or 18 - 35.

The age limit is valid up to your date of birth. This means you need to get your Working Holiday Visa approved before your 31st or 36th birthday.

What are the Requirements for a working Holiday Visa 417?

The requirements for a working holiday Visa are slightly different between 417 and 462 Visa applications. For a 417 Visa below requirements apply:

Hold a passport from an eligible country
Be 18 - 30 or 18 - 35 years for some countries
Apply online from outside Australia
Not be accompanied by dependent children
Not have previously entered Australia on a subclass 417 or 462 visa. If you have previously been in Australia on a subclass 417 visa, see the FAQ about second Working Holiday visa and 88-day rule
You must have enough money to support yourself while you are inAustralia and leave Australia at the end of your stay. This is usually about AUD5,000 for your initial stay, plus the fare to where you are going after leaving Australia.

Something more about the savings you need

At the point of application, you must have approx $5,000 AUD in your bank account in your own currency. So for Europe this means approximately 3500 Euro.

You are only required to have this in your account during your Visa application. Once your visa has been granted, you are free to use this money towards flights, or your Work in Australia job package.

What is the difference between Working Holiday visa 417 and 462?

The Working holiday Visa 462 requires additional proof and documents while applying which the 417 does not.

Additional requirements are:
